At 2 o’clock yesterday, the first pile of the Tram No.1 of Jiaxing started to be built near the Xinhua Bookstore of Zhongshan Road, indicating the improvement of the Zhongshan Road (the section near the Ring River) started.

   The Phase I of the Tram No.1 (from Anle Road to Jiaxing High-speed Railway Station) is part of the environment quality improvement of the Zhongshan Road. With a 13-month construction period and a 1.5-kilometer distance between the East Bridge to the West Bridge of the Zhongshan Road, the project started its construction on May 13, and the underground passage, pavement and pipelines for water supplies, sewage, electric power and natural gases and the tramcar base will be built.

“After the improvement of the Zhongshan Road, the tram will be built in its middle and four lanes will be built on its each side. With a 50-centimeter diameter and 9-meter depth, the first pile is the west starting point of the Tram No.1 along the Zhongshan Road. A pile will be built every 1.2-meter distance and the depth ranges from 7.5 and 9 to 20 meters according to the geologic structure. The concrete is transmitted into the subsoil to consolidate the soil layer and the construction of the road structure, tram base and pipelines will start after the cement piles are constructed. ”

　　The tramcar project has attracted wide attention and recently its construction has been accelerated. At the end of this March, the grasses and trees along the tram began to be moved. On April 17, the preliminary construction design plan of the Phase I was approved by Zhejiang Development and Reform Commission. With a total length of 15.6 kilometers, the Phase I is made up of the Tram No.1, Tram No.2 (from North Yuehe to South Ring Road ) and supporting projects. On May 14, the operation and management company for the tramcar was founded, which is conducive to its early participation in the design and construction of the project and lays a solid foundation for the operation of the project after its construction is completed.

   The operation of the Tram No. 1 will be of symbolic significance in improving the quality and environment of old urban areas, and attracting citizens and tourists to come for sightseeing.
