Jiaxing is a city directly under Zhejiang Province. Under its jurisdiction are two districts Nanhu and Xiuzhou, three county-level cities Pinghu, Haining and Tongxiang, and two counties Jiashan and Haiyan. There are 42 towns and 30 sub-districts in Jiaxing.

The registered population of Jiaxing had reached 3.673799 million by November 30, 2020, 36,812 more than that of the previous year. The birth rate of the registered population was 7.29‰, death rate 6.87 ‰, and natural growth rate 0.43‰. In-migrants were 50,341, out-migrants 15,096, and the mechanical population growth rate reached 9.64‰.
