Yesterday the signing ceremony was held by Jiashan County and Zhejiang University for the joint construction of the Smart Oasis of Zhejiang University in the Yangtze River Delta (hereinafter referred to as Smart Oasis ). The ceremony was attended by Ren Shaobo - secretary of the CPC Zhejiang University Committee, Wu Zhaohui - an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhang Bing- secretary of the CPC Jiaxing Municipal Committee, Li Jun- deputy secretary of the CPC Jiaxing Municipal Committee and acting mayor of Jiaxing Municipal People’s Government, and by other leaders such as Wang Lizhong, Wu Xiaocheng, Zhou Tianhua and Huang Xianhai from Zhejiang University, and Gao Linghui, Chen Lizhong, Shuai Xielang, Zhu Yawei, Fan Qingyu, Ao Kaoquan, Jiang Haiyang and Zhu Miao. Ren Shaobo, Wu Zhaohui, Zhang Bing and Li Jun delivered speeches at the ceremony respectively.

The signing is to further implement the preparatory work of the Smart Oasis to make a new start. The integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta is an important national strategy personally planned, arranged and promoted by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee. We should bear in mind this strategy, shoulder the responsibility and mission of both parties’ cooperation to meet this national major strategic needs and make every effort to help Jiaxing stand out among the cities of the Yangtze River Delta. We should regard this cooperation as a starting point to enhance both parties’ cooperation through higher-quality innovation and take talents as the resources to inject steady driving forces into our cooperation and high-quality development, said Ren Shaobo.

 Two parties should have the signing as an opportunity to strengthen top-end innovation to build the Smart Oasis, create a regional innovation pilot zone of the New Era, accelerate the construction of an excellent ecosystem of “discipline convergence--innovation sources-- commercialization of sci-tech research achievements -- green development” in Jiaxing and Jiashan, give full play to high-level talents’ roles and introduce and train more interdisciplinary and innovative talents to build a regional talent pilot zone of the New Era so that all types of talents can make contributions to serving sci-tech self-reliance and self-improvement, said Wu Zhaohui.

 As a good teacher and helpful friend of Jiaxing, Zhejiang University has closely cooperated with Jiaxing. Since the signing of the comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement, both parties have made fruitful achievements in building the Smart Oasis, Model Area for International Cooperative Education, Jiaxing Research Institute of Zhejiang University, Talent Training Community for the New Era, and the important demonstration area for building a national social psychological service system. This signing marks a new breakthrough and a new stage of the cooperation between both parties. Jiaxing will work more closely with Zhejiang University to construct the Smart Oasis into a benchmark project of implementing the national strategy, i.e. the integrated development of Yangtze River Delta. Both parties should make closer cooperation to write a new chapter and create a new model for the cooperation, said Zhang Bing.

We will do our best to implement the agreement with the highest standard to construct the Smart Oasis to build Jiaxing into a world-class sci-tech innovation lake zone; we will promptly establish a sound and efficient work mechanism, integrate various resources, provide sufficient space, funds, policies and human resources, spare no effort to promote the project in a high-quality and efficient way to ensure more important and more achievements as soon as possible, said Li Jun.

With a total investment of 13.2 billion yuan and an area of 90 hectares, the Smart Oasis, located in the Sci-tech Innovation Green Valley of Xiangfudang, is the most important sci-tech innovation platform ever introduced by Jiashan County. This project will focus on "green +" "wisdom +" "ecological +" to construct six future labs such as Future Environment Lab, Future Health Lab, Future City Lab as well as College of Engineers of Zhejiang University, Future College of Zhejiang University, and an innovation and entrepreneurship base to cultivate major sci-tech achievements, train top-end interdisciplinary talents, and incubate high-tech leading enterprises. After its operation, the Smart Oasis will attract about 10,000 talents to the Sci-tech Innovation Green Valley.
