Haiyan Rolling Lamp Dance
Haiyan Rolling Lamp Dance originated in Haiyan County, Zhejiang Province and has a history of 800 years. It has been adapted into square dance and stage dance performance, in the forms of children rolling lamp, elders rolling lamp (setting-up exercise) and adult rolling lamp. Rolling lamp dance, as a group dance, needs high skills and various complicated movements in different series: some highlight strength, while some need techniques, so the performers should be good at blanket kungfu. Haiyan Rolling Lamp is for both performance and competition, in which people can scramble for the lamps. It is vigorous, highly skilled and characterized by acrobatics and Chinese traditional “sense of round”. That is, all the movements are performed in the direction of a cycle, with hands, legs and the waist all engaged. Its distinguishing style is powerful, doughty, natural and unrestrained . The vigor and skill shown in the rolling lamp dance display the beauty of masculineness and warrior spirit of the Chinese nation.
