Recently, the national conference was held in Beijing on Naming and Commending National Model Cities (Counties) in “Mutual Support between Civilian Sectors and the Military” & National Model Units and Individuals in “Mutual Support between Civilian Sectors and the Military”. Jiaxing was once again honored as a National Model City for the fifth consecutive year and Pinghu as a National County-level City for the third consecutive year.  

The National Model City in “Mutual Support between Civilian Sectors and the Military” represents the highest honor in China in mutual support between civilian sectors and the military. Since being named as a National Model City in 2007 for the first time, Jiaxing has won such an honor for the fifth consecutive year, which reflects Jiaxing’s unwavering consolidation of military-civilian solidarity and mutual support between the military and local authorities.  

Jiaxing has pioneered the work on high-level integration of the people’s armed forces and veteran affairs; the directors of each town’s department of armed forces are directly responsible for the town-level work on mutual support between civilian sectors and the military and veteran services. 39% of village Party secretaries of Jiaxing are veterans, ranking first among all prefecture-level cities in China; the collective annual incomes of all the villages led by thee veterans serving as the village Party secretaries all exceed 1.6 million yuan, indicating those veterans as the village Party secretaries play a pioneering role in rural revitalization; among nearly 17,000 veterans-run businesses, two are listed companies and 74 are national high-tech enterprises, driving progress toward common prosperity. These efforts highlight Jiaxing’s respect for military services and its commitment to military-civilian collaboration.  

For years, Jiaxing has leveraged its revolutionary resources to cultivate “Respecting Military Services in Jiaxing” - a brand for mutual support between civilian sectors and the military. Jiaxing has introduced compassionate and favorable policies to address military families’ urgent needs and establish grassroots service centers for veterans to offer one-stop services ranging from enlistment, military service and retirement to employment. Jiaxing has also launched the first initiative pairing 100 enterprises with military families in Zhejiang to ensure active-duty personnel and veterans in need can receive support nearly double the local subsistence allowance standard.  

In Jiaxing, holidays always see students visiting national defense and patriotic education bases to receive national defence education; you can find the trams marked with “Respecting the Army” running in urban areas, Bus No. 101- a revolutionary education-related bus route connecting urban and rural areas, and 18 research-study routes enriching national defense education contents. Over 1,968 businesses in over 40 sectors like dining, healthcare, education and retail have formed a service ecosystem that offers veterans perks such as medical discounts, free public transit trips, and free entry to over 30 tourist attractions.  

In such a strong environment in favor of mutual support between civilian sectors and the military, Jiaxing has honored more than exemplary figures and families such as “Most Outstanding Veterans” “Most Outstanding Individuals in Favor of Mutual Support between Civilian Sectors and the Military” and “Most Respectable Families Supporting National Defense”, which is an epitome for Jiaxing’s work on mutual support between civilian sectors and the military. 

In the future, Jiaxing will continue to strengthen military-civilian unity to achieve new progress in mutual support between civilian sectors and the military.
